This is a message in a bottle to other musicians.... In the 60's we tried to stop an unjust war with our music. Joan was at the forefront, as was Bob Dylan, Buffy St. Marie, and so many others. We are now being led into a war which at the least parallels Vietnam, but I fear its far worse than that. Fellow musicians, I for one will only sing songs of protest and enlightenment until this madness is over. This isn't a time to sings songs of love, or raps of urban plight. It is a time to rise up and sing and play our instruments anywhere, to anyone that will listen, and sing to those who don't want to hear, or are afraid to open there eyes! Music can change the world, its a proven fact. Learn the words and the music of Dylan, and Joan, and Buffy. Open your heart and write your own!! But remember... don't strike out with your word and song at the enlisted women and men who will be put in harms way. Think about the words, and direct them at the monsters who are bent to once again lead us into hatred, division, and moral turmoil, for oil, and the benefit of the military industrial complex. Back in the late 60's (67-69) while I was in the far-east, a friend had a collection of LPs, which included Joan's. I am not trying to get a hand out, but perhaps some kind of business venture where we both can make money. I have been interested in vehicle security since 1997. I get sick when I hear of peoples property stolen , damaged , and even lives lost from such a preventable problem as car theft. I have looked at many vehicle security devices and there weakness, and endeavored to build a device that is easy to install and also user friendly, and very difficult to remove. I have built prototypes, and have used one on my vehicle for three years even in big cities, and always felt comfortable that my car would always be there where I parked it. I also installed one on an old truck in an auto wreaker and it took three big men 4min. 56 seconds to remove it, only by braking the floorboard because of too ridged a base. This has since been redesigned to be flexible. It was encouraging to see one person could not remove it. It is loose enough installed, that it cannot be cut with a hacksaw, since it is made with good strong steel. The lock cannot be frozen because it is incased with steel and a small air space. These men ! tried with hammers and feet to remove it and only exhausted themselves. Since joy rides and theft of vehicles for the purpose of committing a crime are the main reasons for general auto theft, I know this will be a very good and secure type of vehicle theft deterrent. I have a U.S. patent and applied for an international patent with the help of a company in Ireland, who have done up for me a confidential research report, on North America, and Europe and are at this time trying to find manufactures all around the world that would be interested in building this device that I call "Brake Lock. There is some simple electronics that serve as a trade mark, as well as takes care of the brake light problem. I recently have had interest from England and Illinois and hope to get a positive response from them. Auto theft is a huge problem everywhere. I know it will make a difference. But it will only make a difference if people will use it. In 1973-1974 I was an airman basic then airman stationed at Offutt Air Force Base, Omaha Nebraska, Strategic Air Command, Command Post section ADOFWD. I heard your song and perhaps I read more into it than was there, but it changed my life, diverting me from a career in the military and causing me to get a discharge from the USAF so that I could train as an engineer in college then go on to write software. First, please accept my condolences regarding Mimi...you must be crushed. A good friend of mine (Herb Gold) was a good friend of hers.

You and I met at Grace Cathedral back in the 60's...then again at SF airport last year...I must tell you the story, I think you'll like it:

My 11 year old son lives in England and was out to California to visit me...when he was flying back, he left from SFO and as we parked the car on the upper deck alongside all the limos (and they have nothing like that in England) he said, "Dad! Maybe we'll meet someone famous!!!" I said there weren't that many famous people (he would know about) who lived in SF other than Danny Glover and George Lucas...but Alex was not deterred. We headed for United airlines and there you were, with your guitar in a purple soft case slung over your back standing all alone waiting for a guy with grey hair who was organizing your ride or luggage, I expect. We walked past you and you and I locked eyes and smiled, but I couldn't stop and explain it all to Alex, because he was late for his plane and there was a huge queue to negotiate. I looked back and saw you looking at me...possibly thinking if we had met before, and is so, why didn't I stop to say "hello?"

I am just putting together some music for a little radio show I am doing here in LA, listening to some of Ennio's incredible stuff...and two lovely tracks sung by you....Joan, you have the purest, most beautiful female voice I have ever heard....when I listen to you, I get tears in my eyes from the sheer beauty in your voice.

At least twenty years ago, you did a record album entitled "Gulf Winds". Is there any possibility of this being re-released as a CD? I have almost worn it out making tape copies.

The music is very comparable to much of todays' "new-age" and, I think, would be well-recieved. As usual, you were ahead of your time.

I very much enjoyed your concert in Atlanta this summer.

Dear Joan, I was recently informed that you host a service offering help to women worldwide. Exactly one year (to the week) after my then 21y/o son Tom, barely survived a motorcycle accident, my 18y/o son Paul, was killed in the same manner. There are no words that can express the devestation this had to myself and surviving children. As a promise to Paul, I am now a full-time college student and work part time as a Student Aide at the Open Computer Lab here on campus. Joan, although I continue to persevere through many hardships (I am still healing over the murder of my Dad in 1988)and refuse to allow despair or hopelessness enter my life, I am overwhelmed at times, as are my children, with our desperate need for a well. We run out of water daily, sometimes taking an additional day to fill the shallow existing well, and it has become unbearable at this point. I also have never been able to raise enough money for a headstone for Paul and need several replacement windows on the house. This education I seek so insatiably will in the end change greatly the quality of our lives. In the meantime I am hoping to find a way to ease our difficulties. Would your service be willing to offer a loan for such provisions? If considered, I am in a position to make weekly payments and am also awaiting a settlement as a result of Paul's death at which time the loan (plus any required interest) would be paid in full.
